Do you know the #1 reason
why people don’t pursue art?
It seems pretty ridiculous when you think about it.
There are millions of people out there who haven’t followed their dreams of being artists simply because someone has lied to them.
Believing this lie has meant the difference between being a successful artist and someone who is locked out of achieving their dream.
At some point in their lives, someone presented them with the foolish notion that art is for a lucky few — those born with the “gift.” This lie has been circulating for generations, and has prevented millions of talented potential artists from creating valuable works of art! And on top of that, we have been told that the older you get the less chance you have of ever achieving this dream.
In fact, that’s such a popular belief that we’ve even coined a phrase for it. “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks.”
But here’s the good news!
Recent developments in science and psychology alike have proven this just isn’t true. We have discovered that the mind is much more powerful than we ever imagined. You have the natural ability to literally grow your mind—regardless of your age! Your brain is a living, growing, organ that is capable of gaining new skills and talents.
So what does this mean for you?
This means that, despite popular opinion or what you’ve been told, you can be an artist—you just need to follow the correct steps to add the needed skills into your brain.
How do you do that?
Unlock your drawing skills…
Brain scientists have a big word for it: “neuroplasticity”. But, scientific studies have shown it all comes down to an easy, simple type of exercise.
No. It’s not the kind of exercise you do at the gym. (This one can be a lot more fun.)
However, just like physical exercise helps your muscles get stronger and grow larger, this simple kind of exercise has been proven to help your brain grow stronger, sharper, and, when done correctly, will give you new talents you thought you could never achieve.
So what kind of “exercise" can help you this much?
The key is to take small steps — and to focus on one step at a time. You must go through the activity for each step until it becomes comfortable, and then move on to the next simple action. It’s important that every step in the process builds on the step before it. Your brain must be able to connect the new concept with the part of your brain that has been developed in the previous steps.
This means the process you follow should be designed to give you small steps with exercises that build on each other so that your brain is capable of processing it efficiently. If the information is not in a format that you can take action on, it won’t stick, and you won’t gain the desired skill.
Learning to play an instrument is a great example of this principle in action. You start out learning to play scales. At the time these scales seem menial and monotonous, but what you don’t realize is that your brain is growing through this repetition. In time, these scales become entire songs.
It’s the same with a learned skill like drawing. As you move through each step that you are given and take action on it, you connect with all the other things that you know relate (that’s called a schema by the brain experts) and it helps your brain develop your drawing skills.
This is awesome news!
Because this all means that you can gain drawing skills that go far beyond what you’ve ever imagined possible!
That’s right. Drawing is a completely learnable skill! No matter what you may have believed in the past, you actually can get to where you’ve wanted to go for so long.
Fortunately, master artist Darrel Tank has made it his mission to fight this misinformation that has kept untold millions of individuals from a rewarding experience with art.
Over the past several years, Darrel Tank has focused his energies on sharing secrets he has learned through a career in fine art and illustration. It has become a personal goal to give anyone the opportunity to achieve a level of artistic skill that they never thought possible.
The cornerstone of Darrel Tank’s dedication to this mission is a drawing series containing step-by-step instructions for drawing a portrait from start to finish. This series is based on the science that shows that if you take one simple idea at a time, that those simple ideas will grow into a full-blown skill.
Darrel Tank has probably heard every story in the book. From “I can’t draw a stickman” to “I can’t draw a straight line”, to “But, I have no talent” and of course lots of other self-defeating phrases that continue the cycle of lost opportunity.
But Darrel just smiles and shows them the first step they need to take. And it’s not long before they are looking at their new drawings in disbelief.
I have books and methods for portrait drawing but none of them were getting me anywhere.... I had just about given up before I got started. Not anymore, Darrel is getting me back on track! — Marietta Walker
The "Portrait Series" teaches you the process from start to end. Therefore, it has everything, including (but not limited to) layout, shading, eyes, nose mouth, hair, and finishes. After learning the fundamentals, I would recommend the "Portrait" and "hair" DVD. All lessons are very good. — Kelvin Chen
WHY IT'S AWESOME
Draw Something Worth Showing
This three part series is the real deal! You’ll start with a blank piece of paper and by the end you’ll have a complete portrait to be proud of. Darrel shows you several different approaches to laying out your portraits that can be used in all of your drawings. You’ll learn to see angles and relationships between shapes, and gain the confidence you need to start drawing freehand.
Develop Your Unique Style
Do you have tools in your garage that you don’t even know how to use? A tool can’t be very useful if it’s not doing what it was born to do, wouldn’t you say? That’s why Darrel not only hooks you up with his time-tested tools of choice, but he assigns exercises specifically designed to teach you how to use them—all the while furthering your skill set!
Amazingly logical method that simply makes sense and presented in such a straightforward fashion that even the worst artist (but then what's good or bad in a subjective thing as art) can make great strides in developing good drawing habits and skills. — Bill Barto

“THE LAYOUT”
For many, getting started is the hardest part. Knowing where to put that first mark can be a real challenge!
In the first DVD volume, you’ll learn several approaches for laying out your drawing. Darrel will provide you with the tools you need to increase the accuracy in your drawings and see the relationships between the angles and shapes that make up great proportions.
He’ll show you the most effective approach he has found for “learning to see” so that you can draw more quickly and improve your accuracy when drawing freehand.
This is a very precise technique and you are free (and encouraged) to adapt it to your style and to use the method to double-check your freehand approach, providing yourself with the feedback you need to improve your drawings.
2
“SHADING & CONTOURING”
Once the outlines are on the paper, the next step is to start building the contours by shading. Shading is all about creating an illusion with light. You’ll walk through how each pencil is used to create the value changes that give the appearance of depth and dimension in your drawings. Don’t worry, Darrel will also show you which pencil to use for each layer of value and when to use it.
With each pencil layer your values will get darker. This process continues methodically until the eyes, cheeks, nose, lips, ears and neck all have the appropriate value and texture.
People often ask how Darrel gets such smooth skin textures without using a blending stump. The secret is in how he layers each pencil value. You will learn how to slowly build up value with your pencils, and get a crisp, yet smooth texture to the skin.
3
“DETAILING & FINISHING”
Ever wonder how in the world graphite pencil can make clothing look so soft and realistic?
Using a similar process as you would use on the skin tones, you’ll learn to create the base contours in the folds of cloth, seams, buttons, stitching, and embroidery.
With the base contours laid down, you’ll learn to soften cloth textures. You’ll learn how Darrel uses 3 rules of light to interpret shadows, create depth in stitching and recessed folds of cloth.
And then the real fun begins!
The hair is always the last thing. It’s one of the most fun and rewarding parts of drawing a portrait. It lays in quickly and fluidly. Layer by layer the hair will build to create natural, silky locks that seem as if they could rustle in the breeze.
Of course, your portraits wouldn’t be complete without a properly placed signature. You’ll get a specific technique that you can follow to make sure that your signature will be in complete balance with your drawing.
And once you’ve completed your masterpiece, you will certainly want to be sure to protect it from smudging. Using fixative properly will ensure that your portrait stays crisp and clean. You’ll learn not only the best approach for applying the fixative evenly, but for knowing when to stop.
Don’t let your artistic potential go to waste. Take action today. You’ll be thanking yourself for years to come.
