Here's what you'll learn...
Have you ever wondered why we talk about drawing principles as being so important but most of the drawing tutorials are about how to draw something specific? It’s a good question. And one that others have asked as well.
The answer is this... Very simply, I believe that one of the best ways to learn the principles of drawing with the 5-Pencil Method is to look at how the principles are used in real examples.
That’s why I’ve decided to try to make a series of affordable tutorials that focus on a wide variety of subjects to show how the 5-Pencil Method principles apply in different subjects...
We’re calling this new style of tutorial the “Drawing Study” series.
Here are a few principles that you’ll find in this first tutorial...
Because of the fairly wide range of value in the subject, one of the things that this first tutorial topic was perfect for showing is the way that the pencil order works--think of it as showing how to apply the "sphere" lesson to a "real" drawing.
This concept of which pencil to use when has sometimes been a bit tricky to make clear exactly how it works, so I hope this will be really helpful for you.
Another great opportunity here was being able illustrate--in several different ways--the “3 Rules of Light.” By creating the layers needed to demonstrate the range of value and utilizing the “Clean Edges to Value,” we can push something back or pull things forward to show the all important separation and depth, as one dimension relates to another. There are, of course, many wonderful examples of the core principles throughout "Drawing Study No.1: Rose"... flow and grace... tight contours versus larger ones... clean edges... dedicating lines... fading away...
But let me just stop right there so you can jump in and get your copy now.
