Prismacolor Turquoise Graphite 5-Pencil Set

We understand how after drawing a few portraits your pencils may start to get a little shorter. By popular demand, we have put a set of just the pencils together so you can make sure you always have a fresh set.

You’ll get all of the pencils you need for the 5-pencil method. This set contains one each of the Turquoise brand 4H, 2H, HB, 2B, and 4B pencils.

   US$5.75

Langnickel 2" Camel Hair Brush

This super-soft camel-hair brush is what Darrel uses for “keeping house” — brushing eraser and graphite fragments from his drawing — and for spreading graphite without burnishing the paper when drawing hair.

Choose either a single brush or the 3-brush pack. The 3-pack contains three of the 2" brushes.

   US$5.95 — Single brush

   US$9.95 — 3-brush set

Dry Cleaning Pad Eraser

This is the eraser bag that Darrel explained in the tutorial video on erasers.

  US$4.95

Large Kneaded Eraser

This is most-used eraser in the 5-pencil method. You may want to have several on hand. If you buy from your local art store, be sure to get the large size as the size is important for getting the proper contact with the paper.

    US$1.41

Strathmore 300 Series Vellum Paper

When after experimenting with many papers, Darrel found Strathmore 300 series to be the right texture for his technique.

But that wasn’t the only goal. It was equally important to find a paper that was very affordable for just about anyone. So even though there are many other papers that are much more expensive, the Strathmore 300 series is Darrel’s choice for quality and price.

    US$6.95 — 9" x 12"

    US$9.95 — 11" x 14"

    US$12.95 — 14" x 17"

    US$19.95 — 19" x 24"

18" Clear Acrylic Ruler

This ruler is used as a straight-edge in Darrel’s primary layout method. Any clear straight-edge that’s about 18" will work. This should be an easy item to find at most art or office supply stores, but if you need one, here’s an option.

While you’re getting a ruler, be sure you also have a divider tool, as the ruler and divider work hand-in-hand in Darrel’s approach to laying out a drawing.

    US$4.95

Staedtler Divider Tool

The divider tool is used along with the ruler for Darrel’s primary layout method. There are many ways to lay out a drawing. Darrel’s simple approach to laying out a drawing uses just the ruler and the divider.
